The Objective
Our client wanted to educate GPs across Europe on initiatives to help their patients stop smoking. A thorny subject and one which often leads to confrontation. We worked in close collaboration with their Med Ed agency who had created the theme ’10 seconds’ which was designed to ask a doctor if they had just 10 seconds to help a patient stop smoking what would they say and how would they approach the patient?
The Solution
Inspire Change put together a programme which identified a fun and engaging way to learn and understand people’s different communication styles. Once this is understood it is relatively easy to spot 1 of 4 types and adapt your communication style accordingly so that the discussion is more effective. This was run as a group session. Working in smaller syndicate groups we facilitated further sessions on communication styles and involved a learning technique called Action Learning Sets. Working in small groups allowed the clinicians to discuss real life issues, share good practice and jointly identify approaches which would work in their own practices.
The complexity of the programme was delivering every session in the ‘local’ language and ensuring the meetings reached the target number of delegates. To achieve this Inspire Change used native speaking trainers and produced a series of email campaigns targeted at both faculty and delegates to really get them engaged and to serve as a meeting reminder.
The End Result

“Personally I think your workshops are very interesting and you should not stop doing anything that you are already doing.” Prof Josep Maria Ramon, Faculty Chair, Sitges
