One of the effects of the credit crunch is that you or someone you know may be looking for a new job - either because of redundancy or because you feel that a re-evaluation of your circumstances is appropriate and you want to be ready for a change if it happens.
It's even more important to have a prepared and up to date CV ready to use, but how do you make sure that your CV gets you shortlisted and to that all important interview? How do you ensure that you beat your competition?
A good critical look at your CV is an excellent starting point. Is your CV just a list of events or does it match your particular skills to those required for the job you want? Have you written an 'Executive Summary' that outlines why you are the perfect person for the job (and in an ideal world will direct the interviewer to things in your CV that you would like to be asked about at the interview)?
When you are selected for interview, how should you prepare? Who should you go and see and what should you ask them? At Inspire Change we have lots of experience of sitting on Interview Panels and our perspective is often revealing because of this. When we are interviewing candidates they've nearly all got the same qualifications and experience as each other, so it's not what they’ve done that differentiates them, but what they've done differently.
How will you add value to your CV?
