Inspire Change has always run very successful and popular Media Skills workshops and we like to keep up to date with you changing world and offer you new ways of doing things when that's appropriate.

Podcasting is increasingly popular and has many advantages in today's "on the go" environment. Podcasting could help medical professionals share best practice with their colleagues across the world, allow patients to hear about treatments and care and could raise awareness of work going on in a particular company, hospital, PCT or patient group.

Anyone can make a podcast, but not everyone can make a podcast that's interesting, concise and holds the listener's attention! Here are some tips from our ex BBC cameraman and producer, Nick Horrell:

  • Think about your audience - what do you want them to take away from your podcast?
  • Be a little 'Streetwise' - be aware that material placed on a website could be downloaded by the public (including journalists), as well as friends and colleagues.
  • Give yourself a time limit - no more than 5 minutes to start with.
  • Think about your interviewee - rehearse what you want to say before you hit the record button. Your interviewee may know more than you first thought or may not be the right person to speak with!
  • Think about the location. Picking up the atmosphere of a location really adds to the ambience of a recording, but watch out for slamming doors, noisy air conditioning and areas where patients may be discussing confidential matters.
