As this crisis mounts in the NHS, it is increasingly more important that doctors stand head and shoulders above their peers at their interviews.
How can this be achieved? Make sure that you seize every leadership training & development opportunity funded by the top pharmas. Sign up for 1-to-1 coaching to improve your interview and presentation skills. Keep reviewing your CV and make sure you follow our 20 top tips for how to write a successful CV.
Are there other alternatives? We appreciate the enormous sacrifices and personal investment many of you will have made to succeed in a medical career and many of you now will be apprehensive about stepping outside of the medical arena. However, medics have many valuable transferable skills. You have already demonstrated that you can work under pressure, you have commitment, dedication and tenacity which are key skills sought by industry. Equally, you might find that working in industry provides a new challenge and motivates you in a different way. The advantages are it may give you a better work-life balance, opportunities for better remuneration and a greater sense of being valued. To make the move you will need to prepare for questions: principally, why did you leave the NHS? You’ll also need to plan your campaign, sign up with head-hunters, develop and sell your transferable skills, but above all be bold and confident.
