Read 'The Week' the newsletter sent by the Department of Health to all Chief Executives of all Trusts. Every quarter, The Week contains a link to the financial newsletter, which means you can read how the trust you work for, or want to apply to, is getting on.

The Healthcare Commission, where you can type in the name of the trust you are applying to, and see how they got on when measured by the Inspectors.

Where you can find the recommendations from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. NB Be wide ranging in what you put into the search function, e.g. 'Ophthalmology' turns up zero results, but 'eye' gives you 20.

Different from the neighbourhood statistics site, this one looks at national and regional figures, and has an interesting health section.

Neighbourhood statistics. You input the town or city name or ward you are interested in and you can access all sorts of data regarding demographics.

NHS Appointments of Consultants rules from the Department of health. You can download the official booklet all Trusts are governed by. It shows, for example, that the absolute minimum number of people on the panel will be 5 (or 6 at a teaching hospital). It also gives all the minimum timescales regarding shortlisting.
